Chris Strudwick-Turner
L. C. “Chris” Strudwick-Turner joined the Los Angeles Urban League in March 2006 as the Vice President of Marketing & Communications. Strudwick-Turner is responsible for all marketing, communications and public relations as well as development. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, she plays a pivotal role in the creation and implementation of the League’s strategic planning and organizational marketing/PR plans.
Strudwick-Turner came to the League after eight years at the Los Angeles Times. She managed Public Affairs special projects and was the creator and director of The Times’ award-winning Student Journalism Program. Strudwick-Turner produced community forums featuring high-level civic and industry leaders and partners in the entertainment industry. She also was the publisher for the Los Angeles Times book, “Frank del Olmo: Commentaries on His Times.” Prior to the Public Affairs years, Strudwick-Turner was the Director of The Times’ National Edition, overseeing marketing, operations and circulation. Strudwick-Turner worked at the Daily Journal Corporation, the largest daily legal newspaper chain in the country, before going The Times. She served as a column editor and writer, book critic and the editor/publisher of several Daily Journal niche publications.
Strudwick-Turner is a native of Washington, D.C. She received an undergraduate degree in political science from Boston University and a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. She clerked for the Chief Judge of the District of Columbia Superior Court and in the California Federal Court and practiced criminal law as a public defender. Strudwick-Turner is a graduate of the prestigious Advanced Executive Program at the Media Management Center of Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management and Medill School of Journalism. Strudwick-Turner, a member of several community and professional organizations, resides with her family in Los Angeles.
