HEAD START & STATE PRESCHOOL
The mission of the Los Angeles Urban League’s Federal Head Start & State Preschool program is to ensure that the minority children benefit from the same level of education and social skills training as students in private preschools. All children deserve an equal opportunity to learn.

Over the years, more than 37,300 children from West, East, Central and South Los Angeles have learned skills they need to succeed in elementary school. With a staff of over 200 people, this program consists of 33 educational sites, a central food preparation facility and an administrative office.

Perhaps the most important component of our program is involving the parents in the child’s development process. We educate parents in the stages of child development and the responsibilities of parenting.

CBS News Morning Show - June 10, 2008

CBS News Morning Show has chosen our Vernon & Vermont Head Start facility to shoot a live broadcast on June 10th. More than 60 children and their parents participated in the CBS Early Show shoot which aired live on the east coast (tape delayed on west coast) beginning at 7 am. Sears and Craftsman donated a wonderful playhouse for the Vernon site and provided toys and other projects for the children to enjoy.
