SUMMARY:Building Real Wealth With Real Estate | BWAARP 2022 | Session 3
DESCRIPTION:Register today for session 3 of our 2022 BWAARP Series\, “BUILDING REAL WEALTH WITH REAL ESTATE”.\nHOSTED by: James Bird & Reggie Brooks\, Real Estate Moguls \nJames Bird \nAfter several successful years in corporate America with Sears Roebuck\, Burroughs Corporation\, General Electric\, and Digital Equipment Corporation\, James Bird started investing in real estate part-time. He started small by buying and fixing up and flipping small houses\, and duplexes\, for a good profit\, in South Central Los Angeles. His investments extended to Northern California and other states such as Louisville\, Kentucky\, Atlanta Georgia\, where he developed condominiums and townhomes.  He has taught many others in real estate investing through public speaking\, private coaching\, and mentoring programs. He also helped run a Real Estate Investment Club that provided a great forum to network for both beginner and expert real estate investors. As a result\, many other individuals became successful real estate investors. James Bird graduated from Dorsey High School and California State University Los Angeles\, graduating with a BS degree in Business Administration.  \nReggie Brooks \nReggie Brooks is compelled by a desire to pay back the generosity and coaching that others have invested into him. His mission is to help real estate investors grow\, transform communities and live successful lives. Reggie Brooks is a multi-millionaire with over 30 years of experience. He grew up poor\, fighting his life of poverty with the only weapon he had-his dream to succeed. SUMMARY:The Supreme Court and the Future of Affirmative Action
DESCRIPTION:About this event:\nAffirmative action has historically been used to ensure equal employment on the basis of race and sex\, recognizing that marginalized groups face unique challenges limiting equal opportunity. This webinar will delve into how affirmative action has traditionally been used to provide greater educational opportunities to marginalized groups and significantly increase educational diversity\, recognizing that traditional admission indicators such as test scores or grade point averages may further exclude minorities and not recognize their distinct strengths and talents. Despite rulings in Supreme Court cases like Fisher v. University of Texas in 2016\, which determined that the use of race as an admission consideration did not violate the Equal Protection Clause\, affirmative action in education has been continually challenged with claims that race should not be a deciding factor for admissions at all. Moreover\, the Supreme Court has repeatedly upheld narrowly tailored affirmative action programs in public universities over the last four decades. As the Supreme Court prepares to hear arguments on whether race-conscious admissions programs at the University of North Carolina and Harvard–the first case to be taken by the Court involving a private university–are lawful\, our panel will examine the roots and impact of affirmative action. In addition\, panelists will examine the potential implications of overturning the Fisher decision and limiting diversity in university education. \nSpeakers:\nYahonnes Cleary – Partner\, Paul\, Weiss\, Rifkind\, Wharton & Garrison LLP\nMichael Lawson – President & CEO\, Los Angeles Urban League\nDrucilla Stender Ramey – Dean Emerita\, Golden Gate University School of Law; Former Executive Director\, Bar Association of San Francisco and National Association of Women Judges; Special Counsel\, ABA Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice\nJohn C. Yang – President and Executive Director\, Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC \nModerator:\nPaul M. Smith – Senior Vice President\, Campaign Legal Center; Professor from Practice\, Georgetown University Law Center; Council Member\, ABA Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice \nDon’t miss the ABA Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice’s upcoming webinar ‘The Supreme Court and the Future of Affirmative Action’ on Tuesday\, February 22\, at 3:00 p.m. ET/12:00 p.m. PT via ZOOM.
