As of October 1, 2025, at 12:01 a.m., the federal government has entered a shutdown after Congress failed to pass new appropriations legislation. A government shutdown can have wide-ranging impacts on our communities – from delays in federal services to uncertainty for federal workers, small businesses, and military families.
Statement from Cynthia Mitchell-Heard, President & CEO of the Los Angeles Urban League,
“As the government shutdown continues, the Los Angeles Urban League remains steadfast in our commitment to the communities we serve. Moments like this create uncertainty and hardship for many families, but our mission is unwavering — to be a resource, an advocate, and a partner during challenging times. We will continue to stand alongside those who are impacted, ensuring they have access to support, guidance, and opportunities that help strengthen both individuals and our broader community.”
