We launched a new phase of civil rights and social justice advocacy in 2024, called the “D3” campaign. Defend Democracy, Demand Diversity, and Defeat Poverty. The effort underscoes the Urban League’s commitment to employment, education, housing, healthcare and equitable justice. From addressing barriers of racial gaps within education, health equity, economic development and cultural collaboration, these are the ways advocacy plays a role in our mission:

State of Black LA:
Held October 10, 2024: Our widely anticipated annual convening of stakeholders, elected officials, corporate and community partners. By all measures State of Black LA was a hugely successful event. CIVIC ENGAGEMENT, CIVIL AND HUMAN RIGHTS
The LA Urban League works to achieve policy change that advances equality, social and economic justice, and civil rights for African American communities and others countywide.
Combat and overturn racially targeted voter suppression tactics such as gerrymandering, strict voter ID laws, the shuttering of polling places in predominantly minority neighborhoods, limits on early voting, and reckless purging of voter rolls.
Overcome the white supremacist “anti-woke” backlash to diversity, equity, and inclusion policies in employment and education, access to housing and healthcare, and the criminal justice system.
Dismantle the structural and institutional barriers to financial services, social safety net programs, quality educational resources, and other economic opportunities.
