Although Juneteenth isn’t officially celebrated until tomorrow June 19th, the Urban League helped the state of California kick-off the party a little earlier than normal this year. Last Thursday, a contingent of local, state and national leaders was on hand at Cal State LA, for a symposium titled “Pathways to Progress: Legacy, Learning and Leadership.” The event was livestreamed throughout the California State University system to all 22 other CSU campuses.
Here in LA, National Urban League President and CEO Marc Morial, delivered a passionate keynote address to the in-person attendees, more than 200 in all. Morial was joined by Los Angeles Urban League President and CEO Cynthia Mitchell-Heard and a handful of other local affiliate Urban League staff members in attendance.
Referencing the current social climate and what Morial described as an assault on the progress, he said to the audience, “We must resist because this is not a political cause. This is a moral cause.”
